Combining Different Moving Options For The Best Results
What's the easiest way to move house? It's probably opting for an all-inclusive service—hiring a moving company that packs, transports, and unpacks all your possessions. But even though this is an extremely convenient way to move, it's not the most cost-effective. At the other end of the scale, doing 100% of the moving work yourself is perhaps the most inexpensive option—but certainly not the easiest. Maybe the best way to move is to combine different options.
Traveling With You
Some of your personal items will probably travel with you as you make your way to your new home—whether it's across town, across state lines, or even across the country. Important personal items (documents, jewelry, essential medications) should travel with you, along with other items that you might need for a longer journey. These are less essential (but still important) items—a change of clothes, a few bathroom items, and a few of your child's favorite toys. Of course, these items only account for a small percentage of your possessions.
The Moving Truck
The majority of your possessions will be loaded into a moving truck and driven to your new home. It's going to be far easier to leave this to the professionals. Movers are an expense, but they are also a worthwhile investment. It's still up to you to pack your items, giving them protection as needed—glassware wrapped in paper, delicate items covered with bubble wrap, and so on. The literal heavy lifting is handled by a professional team, meaning that your possessions are removed, transported, and unloaded with efficiency. However, before you hire a moving truck, you'll need to know which size vehicle you'll need. There could be items that you won't need right away, and moving day can be far quicker if these non-essential possessions are sent ahead.
Sent Ahead
Many moving companies offer a container option. This is pretty much what it sounds like. A shipping container (with various sizes available) will be delivered to your home and placed on your driveway (or other suitable location with easy access). You carefully fill the container, which is then closed and locked. The container is collected and sent ahead to your new home. It will be deposited there and can be unloaded when you arrive. This basically splits the amount of work that's required, making moving day feel far less labor-intensive.
By combining the various moving options available, you can find a way to move house that gets the job done efficiently in a manner that suits your budget.
